Hacajaka
Pomp & Ceremony

Hacajaka's exhibition of new paintings titled Pomp & Ceremony forms part of the worldwide independent jubilee celebration of Ghana, the first country south of the Sahara to attain independence under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Independent Ghana turns 50 on March 6th this year.

Pomp & Ceremony looks at the pomp and pageantry surrounding chieftaincy and royalty in Ghana, perhaps the most unifying, awesome and visually stunning institution in Ghana. At left, Hacajaka's "Three Umbrellas" captures a durber scene, a traditional gathering of chiefs during festivals in Ghana.

This is the first solo exhibition in the Virgin Islands for artist Hacajaka. He lives in Accra. His works are in the collections of Leasafric Collection, the National Theatre of Ghana, the National Museum of Ghana and the collection of Texas state senator Rodney Ellis.
